rational choice is a privilege

a colleague shared this article about credit card fees & how everyone (in the US) pays them, while only the rich are actually using credit cards, which effectively means that the poor are subsidizing the rewards of the rich. this doesn’t make credit card users bad; it’s the rational choice given the system. It’s just another example of how the rational choice is often only available to a subset of folks, therefore: rational choice is a privilege.

sure, all of us can make some rational choices about some things. but many rational choices are simply not available to many folks.
